Superb mid-century decorative art glass murano aquarium block

Lot Details

Superb mid-century decorative art glass murano aquarium block. Stylistically this is almost certainly the work of either Alfredo Barbini or Riccardo Licata for the Italian studio of Geno Cenedese. Featuring twin fish swimming amongst stylised weed. On close inspection the detailing on the fish themselves is incredible showing multitoned striped bodies finished with delicate lace like fins. Realistic white and black eyes typical of Barbini’s work. These aquarium block were created by sandwiching two large lobes of clear molten glass together around the central fish and weed decoration. The organic undulating effect achieved is beautiful in the light. Flat polished foot. Measuring 165mm wide by 130mm high by 50mm deep.
