Early English freeform stoneware vase by the English ceramicist Bernard Rooke. Featuring his typical embossed hieroglyphic like decoration cut into a raw slab sided form. Mocha tones to the front and rear set off beautifully against the soft celadon green / grey sides. Stamped “rooke” to the lower side as noted. This example has some historic protective baize to the underside. A large heavy early example of Rooke’s work measuring 170mm wide at the base by 100mm deep by 192mm tall. 1.4kgs. Excellent vintage order. Circa late 60’s / early 1970’s.
